I was just about to order the HobbyCNC PRO Driver package, but when I went to checkout, I found that a PayPal account was required for credit card payments. I do not have, nor do I want, a PayPal account. I emailed the owner, Dave Rigotti, and he referred me to the Ordering page on his website where it describes how to snail-mail a order. The problem there is that you get into the whole, "waiting for the check to clear" thing. I know I've purchased items via PayPal before, where an account was not required. Does anyone know if this a restriction the merchant has control over, or is it a PayPal requirement?

Some merchants offer it as a more secure method, so instead of you paying them directly with your credit card, you're paying through the trustedness of paypal, it's 'safer' for you. But only if you don't trust hobbycnc pro to be selling you what you think they actually are.
I've been using paypal for years to sell products. You can offer many different payment methods. In that situation, paypal is just a middleman.
Suck up your bollucks, and just do it, or buy it from somewhere else.

Paypal maybe acting as an agent to authenticate the credit card transaction.
I know that for my business, almost no one (processes) authenticates credit card transactions directly, they sign up for a service through their bank, or their Web-merchant provider, etc...
Signing up for a Paypal account is painless. I would rather use this than my 'real' credit info on the Web.

I would just forget paypal and second day air a certified bank check for the amount. I hate paypal with a passion.
